Of the 32 interest in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, 31 has the owner. Specifically, Mexico’s Club Leon lost the World Cup Club after accusing violating multi -club ownership rules, because the parent company GruPo Pachuca also owned another team attending, Pachuca.
Shortly thereafter, Club Leon appealed this decision to the International Sports Arbitration Court (CAS), which has now confirmed that they will not reject the decision and therefore Leon will not be able to play this summer.
Leon argued that the club removed all conflicts from both Leon and Pachuca to join the World Cup Club. However, CAS rejected this argument, and decided that the club that the Colombian star, James Rodriguez, would not be able to continue participating in the tournament, while Pachuca was still retained.
CAS also confirmed that Costa Rica’s Alajuelense team also failed to appeal to win the empty position after they were the original team talking about the conflict between Leon and Pachuca.
Instead, FIFA will now organize a play-off match between Club America and Los Angeles FC to determine which team will win the last capacity that Leon left in Group D.
The date and venue of the play-off has not been announced, but the winning team will confront Chelsea, Flamengo and ES Tunis in the group stage and receive a fee of $ 9.55 million.
